Online therapy for depression

Depression tends to be described as sadness, but the version that brings most adults into therapy looks more like flatness and friction. Tasks that used to take an hour take a day. Decisions stall. The parts of your life that once carried a sense of authorship now feel like maintenance you are behind on.

The most frustrating feature is circular: the things that would help are exactly the things depression removes the motivation to do. So we do not start by waiting for motivation to return.

Clinical approach

Behavioral activation and motivational interviewing

Structured behavioral activation works in the opposite direction from waiting to feel better. We establish small, safe, repeatable routines — sized honestly to what you can actually do right now — and let evidence of your own capacity accumulate until it breaks the depressive loop.

Motivational interviewing runs alongside it, which means the direction of the work comes from you rather than from assignments handed down. The container is deliberately encouraging and non-judgmental: shame is a reliable accelerant for depression, and there is no clinical reason to add any.

What the work tends to cover

  • Behavioral activation calibrated to current capacity
  • Routine and sleep architecture rebuilding
  • Executive fatigue and decision avoidance
  • Loss of professional agency and identity shifts
  • Self-criticism and shame cycles
  • Coordination with psychiatry when medication is worth evaluating
