About the therapist
Professional credentials and administrative roots
Jim Brown is a seasoned clinical professional holding dual foundational licenses in North Carolina and Oregon. He earned his Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of North Carolina, and has been actively practicing as a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1999 and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist since 2009.
Jim initiated his career as an intake clinician at a local non-profit agency, specializing in rapid clinical assessment, crisp diagnosis, and strategic referral coordination. He subsequently advanced into behavioral health administration, where he spent years overseeing private mental health and addiction clinical teams across a broad spectrum of medical settings.
That operational background is the reason care coordination is a standard part of this practice rather than an add-on. Having run programs at several levels of care, he knows how these networks actually function — and how to move someone through them without the usual delays.
The origin of the work
My journey into this work began in the quiet, critical moments of crisis support.
Serving as a volunteer suicide hotline operator and peer support counselor taught me the profound power of simply being present for someone in their darkest hour. Those early experiences instilled in me a deep commitment to meeting clients exactly where they are — with active compassion, without clinical judgment, and with unwavering structural support.
Practice philosophy
Empowerment, then execution
Change is possible for everyone — it just requires the right environment and the right tools. My philosophy is centered on empowerment and active execution; I believe every client possesses the intrinsic agency to shift their trajectory and improve their overall everyday functioning.
By providing a premium, highly personalized tele-counseling experience, I help you bridge the gap between where you are today and where you want to be tomorrow, leaning intentionally into your natural resilience to create lasting, meaningful change.
